Bodyscapes
For centuries, the human figure has been an enduring theme for artists in all media. While many look at the figure as an object, I explore the human figure as a landscape. Using the body as a foundation upon which I place miniature scenes, I create whimsical narratives that challenge a viewer’s sensibilities about photographic fact and fiction.
Starting the process with a nude figure as a canvas, I arrange a multitude of objects and materials upon the figure to create the backdrop or context. Once the scene is set, I place various miniature figurines and props around the area to create the narrative. In order to create the alternate realities, I use a 24mm macro lens to distort the sizes of the miniatures and make them seem more life-like.
